The Big Game

So, Sunday came...the big show down between the JETS and Chargers. Andy's buddy Worm (aka. Mike) came in Saturday night for the game. So after some Wii time with the kids Saturday night, off went the guys to the game on Sunday morning, dressed in their JETS regalia. It was Andy, Mike, Worm, and Pauly, another out of town friend who came over right before they all left. They were meeting up with lots of local friends (Charger fans) for a tailgate party at the stadium. I don't know much about this part of the day, but assume they had fun. Our friend Finance, aka. Mike....yes another Mike....had 2 guys come cook tri-tip on the BBQ for everyone. I would have loved to go to the game had they NOT been playing the JETS. No one took a camera, so we have no pictures from the tailgate party or the game. Maybe that's a good thing.

While Andy was tailgating with friends, I took the kids to meet up with my Mom and Karen & kids for breakfast. We went to the Hamburger Factory in Old Poway Park, where we go any time we do breakfast. It's a great family place, where the kids don't have to be on great behavior at all times. The park is a lot of fun for the kids with lots to do. There is a train that runs around it, a stream that runs through it, plenty of grassy areas to picnic and run around....a gazebo which often has concerts or weddings, and lots of other community activities. They always have things going on there for holidays. Anyway, as were waiting for our food, our neighbors came in with their 2 daughters. They were there for a soccer team party. The older daughter, Bonnie, babysits for us on occasion. Delaney, the younger daughter, loves to play with all the kids, so she also kept them entertained after breakfast, running around the park, checking out the stream, poking around under a bridge, and riding the train with us. We saw Shane and Megan, the winners of last season's "The Amazing Race" while we were in the restaurant. Megan is the coach for Bonnie's team. They both had on Chargers jerseys.....probably the best you can buy....not like my cheap-o from Wal-Mart. I had my camera with me, but didn't think quick enough to get a picture of them. After we had our fun at the park, I took all the kids and we headed home to watch the game. Karen and Mike came over to watch too. We had kids in and out of the house all afternoon as unfortunately, we watched the Chargers go down in defeat.

As you can imagine, Andy was pretty happy Sunday night. They managed to get out of the stadium and parking lot unscathed, although poor Pauly did get a half full beer can chucked at his head as they were walking into the game. Fans can be asses no matter where you are.....even in fabulous San Diego. Andy dropped Mike Roth at the airport after the game and he and Worm came home. They didn't gloat too much, so the evening wasn't completely horrible. Owen and Madeline slept over as we had Monday off from school. It was pretty good day, even though the outcome wasn't the one I wanted. We'll see what happens this Sunday when Andy's JETS go after the Colts. Andy does have the opportunity to go to that game too as his old roommate and good friend Dan lives there and is going to the game. Probably wouldn't have been a great idea though as they would have to root against each other. Now, if they can beat the Colts.... he is off to Miami for the Super Bowl. He and Mike Roth would both go and take their Dads, who just as luck would have it, live less than a mile from each other! But, I won't get ahead of myself.....one game at a time. Sports Illustrated came out today with a picture of the JETS QB, Mark Sanchez on the cover. It's usually a curse to be on the cover.... so we'll see how it runs out. If you hear fire alarms ringing from the direction of Poway on late Sunday afternoon, that's probably not a good sign.

Uncle Worm playing with the kids on the Wii. They started to call him Uncle Kung Fu after a while. I guess they all must have done kung fu on the Wii.
