Father's Day 2009

Happy Father's Day! The day started with Karen and I taking our kids to see my Dad, Bill Heffernan, and step-mom Jann. We went for breakfast at the Wagon Wheel in Escondido, CA. I remember going to the Wagon Wheel when we first moved to Escondido in 1971. I don't think I've been there since. It was a great breakfast! We had a good time catching up. I forgot to take any pictures, but will do better when we see him for his birthday in July.

After breakfast, we headed down to see our good friends Pete and son Alex Llewellyn. Pete had a great BBQ for us and a few friends and family. We had a great time. Yeah Dads!!

Don't mess with these bikers....especially the one with the patch!

In the words of Alice Cooper... School's Out for Summer!

David finished his first and Rose her 2nd year of preschool! They both had a great year and Rose is really looking forward to kindergarten. The end of the year was busy with field trips, Mother's Day Teas, Donuts with Dads..... and just end of the year wrap-ups. It was a sad day on Rose's last day as she heads off to a new school and won't see her friends nearly as much. I also won't get to see all the parents who are now my friends too. Dave will be headed back in the fall, so we will still get to see his friends and their families. It was a great year for them both!

One of the Dads in David's class is a professional clown. The last week of school Mr. Kriegsman came in as a clown and made all the kids fun balloon hats. He was nice enough to make them for Rosie and Joe when we came to pick David up. Top pic is teacher, Mrs. Sue Martin

David had his "school birthday" celebration on his last day.
He wouldn't take the birthday hat off.

Sundays at the Park

On any given Sunday the kids and I get together with sister Karen & her kids, along with our Mom for breakfast. We go to a place close to us called The Hamburger Factory in Old Poway Park. There's a railway that runs around the park with a great old steam locomotive as well as 2 other trains. We have breakfast then usually ride the train. It's a great little park and the kids are still young enough that they love to go. Almost every weekend someone is in the park having a "Thomas the Tank Engine" birthday party. (You get an extra lap around the park on the train on your birthday.) There are HUGE trees with amazing, giant leaves. A little creek runs through the center of the park and an egret, or maybe it's a crane, is usually hanging out. There is a big gazebo and often something going on....concerts, art shows, craft fairs, etc. There is a great little ticket office with a really good Thomas train table. I usually end up dragging 1 or more kids out screaming and crying when we have to go after playing for a while. I will miss when these days are over! Rose already tells me "it's boring" on occasion. For now I will just enjoy our happy Sunday mornings.

Owen, David, Madeline, Rose & Joey getting ready for the train ride. Today we had the open air speeder train. This one is fun as it gets going faster than the others and the floor vibrates like the Footsie Wootsie machines at the Del Mar Fair.

Look Ma, no hands! Woo-HOO!
